Jewellery Care
Your jewellery is a cherished possession, and with proper care, it can last a lifetime. This guide offers essential tips to keep your solid gold and 925 sterling silver pieces looking their best.
General Care Tips
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Keep your jewellery away from chemicals like chlorine, bleach, and household cleaning agents that can damage metals.
- Remove Before Activities: Take off your jewellery before swimming (in pools with chlorine), bathing (in various bath bombs, body washes, lotions), exercising (sweat won't hurt but will contribute to light tarnishing over time; moreover, the gym is a great place to damage your pieces), and doing household chores to prevent damage or, worse, loss.
- Apply Cosmetics First: Put on lotions, perfumes, and hairspray (letting them settle for a few minutes) before wearing your jewellery to minimise exposure to chemicals.
- Proper Storage: Store pieces individually in soft pouches or lined jewellery boxes. Sterling silver can tarnish over time due to exposure to air and moisture, but regular care can keep it gleaming. Gold is more resilient to tarnishing.
- Ocean Wear: Whilst wearing your jewellery in the ocean will not harm it, different precious metals will naturally tarnish over time. By following these instructions, your items are safe to wear in the sea.
- For pieces with an oil-slick oxidisation treatment, clean gently. Avoid using our polishing cloth, as it may remove the treatment. It won't harm the jewellery, but the finish may be lost.
Cleaning & Polishing
- Cleaning: Soak your jewellery in warm water mixed with a few drops of mild dish soap. Gently scrub with a soft toothbrush, rinse thoroughly, and pat dry with a tissue.
- Polishing: Use a jewellery polishing cloth (included in all orders) to restore shine if your pieces appear dull. Gently rub your pieces with the polishing cloth to remove light tarnish. If you have a piece that has been oxidised, this can remove the treatment, leaving the piece with a natural shine.
- Wear Regularly: Frequent wearing can prevent tarnish.
- Prevent Tarnish: Store silver jewellery in airtight bags with anti-tarnish strips. Avoid exposing it to rubber, latex, or wool, which can accelerate tarnishing.
